CONNECTING TO MOPAY

Q. How do we physically connect to the MoPay service centre?

A. Your systems connect to MoPay over a private and secure network, such as VPN. This can be set-up either through a provider with a global network and infrastructure (AT&T, for example) or can be arranged through your local Service Provider.

Q. What are the interface points from MoPay to our systems?

A. For SMS-based payments, there is always an online interface to the operator’s SMS-C and if the m-payment application offered is prepaid mobile top-up, there is also an interface to the prepaid accounting system. Interfaces to banking and merchant systems can vary depending on the desired functionality. For online authorisation of transactions, the interface could be an ISO 8583 or other standard financial protocol.

Q. How long does the interfacing take?

A. Standard interfaces usually require 1-2 weeks of testing. As MoPay is a managed platform, no software or systems needs to be installed in either the operator’s, bank’s or merchant’s premises.

Q. What SMS-C protocols do you support?

A. MoPay supports CIMD2, SMPP and UCP, and will need operators to share documentation about their SMS-C and notify MoPay of any changes.

Q. For prepaid mobile top-up, what prepaid accounting systems do you support?

A. MoPay can interface with the prepaid system in real-time, or via a batch (file) interface. If applied frequently the batch interface can be ‘near real-time’. As prepaid systems vary, MoPay would need to study the architecture of the prepaid accounting system to determine if one of the existing interfaces in our library meets the participating operator’s needs.

Q. What network interfaces are supported?

A. MoPay supports TCP/IP. If another interface should be used, (such as file transfer or a proprietary interface) a handler can be added to support the interface.

Q. What types of support services are included with the offer? Does MoPay support the platform and the technology?

A. MoPay operates the MoPay platform, ensuring platform availability 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This includes monitoring and maintenance of the hosting infrastructure as well as the underlying technology that powers the mobile payment applications through our partner, IBM.

MoPay also recognises that launching a mobile payment initiative requires a great deal of planning, collaboration and understanding of the various participants’ business needs. The experience of designing m-payment services with banks, mobile operators, merchants and card associations in a variety of regions around the world offers insight into what is required to ensure success of a mobile payment project. Sharing this experience with our customers and adapting it to correspond to the needs of individual projects is part of the service planning and design process and is a critical component of the MoPay offering.

Q. What equipment do I need to provide?

A. MoPay recommends a VPN connection to ensure maximum security for both the applications offered and the overall platform. If connecting to the platform through a VPN connection, a simple Cisco router that can be configured to support IPSec will most likely be required. Depending on internal policies, a dedicated router may be used. Should the bank prefer a managed service for a guaranteed QoS, a router can be installed and managed by our partner IBM through AT&T global services.

Alternatively, other connectivity options are available and can be arranged through participants’ local service providers.
