GENERAL QUESTIONS

Q. Who is MoPay?

A. MoPay provides a centralized m-payment processing platform to which banks, mobile operators and merchants – any seller or supplier of goods and services - can connect to enable mobile payment services for their customers.

Q. What is MoPay and what does it stand for?

A. MoPay is a managed mobile payment service. MoPay offers a ‘Payment Authentication & Authorization Service’ and the functions that the platform performs enable end-to-end mobile payment services: user authentication and management of payment authorization for m-payment transactions.

Q. What is included in the MoPay managed service? Do I need my own hosting environment?

A. MoPay is an ‘on demand’ service and is the only mobile payments offer on the market that is a fully managed service rather than a simple software solution. The offering includes access to the advanced technology which powers a number of easy-to-use m-payment applications as well as a complete suite of consulting and support services required to implement and manage a mobile payments service. This provides the critical efficiency of centralized services, enabling low-cost mobile transaction processing without the capital and human resource investment of an in-house operated solution. It requires no investment in additional systems or infrastructure by participating mobile operators, banks and merchants.

Q. Is MoPay currently operational?

A. Yes. The platform is up and running and processing m-payments for real customers.

Q. Who manages the hosting environment?

A. The technology which powers MoPay is hosted and managed in IBM’s secure hosting environments. MoPay has a close working relationship with IBM for marketing and service delivery of m-payment applications.

Q. Who can use MoPay? Is it for end-users?

A. Any entity seeking to offer a mobile payment service can use the platform to offer m-payment applications to consumers. This can include mobile operators, financial services organizations (banks, card associations or private label card issuers) and merchants which use the platform to offer an m-payment service to other participants.

Q. What systems do we need to install to access the service?

A. Nothing. MoPay is a managed service, and operates over secure links for mobile operators, financial services organizations and merchants. All operators and banks need to do is connect to the platform. This connection is normally via a secure VPN link.

Q. Who markets the m-payment applications to consumers?

A. In an operator-led model, the operator markets the m-payment services to consumers; in a bank-led model, the bank does. For certain applications, merchants can also market the services and recruit customers. Typically, whoever offers the service to consumers also drives the marketing program. Joint marketing efforts, however, by operators, banks and merchants help achieve maximum success of new services.

Alternatively, card associations can use the platform to offer an m-payment service to banks, mobile operators and merchants independently, and can actively participate in the marketing of the services to end-users.

MoPay does market m-payment services directly to end-users in support of the marketing efforts of the parties mentioned I the above and the the MoPay brand will continue to play a major role in the marketing of applications to end-users.
