Event Tracking
MoPay features complete transaction and event tracking capabilities. This functionality also includes a complete view of the customer's status and transaction history.
The platform logs every activity related to a customer's transactions, including failed transaction requests, change of password or PIN and change of account status (i.e., active to blocked). The transaction audit trail capabilities can be specified to include separate, individual entries for each step in a transaction including a separate, unique entry and code for authorization and transaction confirmation.
A key element of the customer experience is the fast and efficient resolution of problems before and during service use. The MoPay service offering includes a Customer Care Module that operators, banks or merchants can use to manage customer care requests.
The module's multiple screens provide a window onto the platform and enable access to detailed information about individual users' account histories. The module can be used to upload the registration files, update customer profiles online and manage customer problems / inquiries. A complete transaction and event history is available on a per-user basis to assist customers with their m-payment transactions. Recommended connectivity to the module is via a secure VPN. The actions below are all performed from extremely easy-to-use interfaces:
Using the module, Customer Care agents can:
- Register new users
- Register a single subscriber on-line
- Upload a batch registration file containing new or modified subscriber records
You can register new subscribers individually on-line, or by uploading a batch file to the MoPay system containing their details. Depending on the service definition, users may have to activate their account by sending an SMS registration request. Alternatively, registration may be automatic. Note : The Registration functions are only available to Customer Care users with sufficient access rights. Supervisor users can access both on-line and batch registration, while Batch users can only access batch registration.
- Viewing details of a subscriber’s account

- Viewing a log of subscriber events
- Viewing details of financial transactions
- Viewing details of a statement
To help solve subscribers’ problems, or to provide additional information to subscribers, you may need to examine the details of the subscriber’s account. You can view a log of all activity on a specific account. Account activity is recorded in the form of events. An event can be something that the subscriber has initiated, such as sending an SMS to make a bill payment, or can be the result of a Customer Care agent’s action, such as blocking an account or updating the subscriber’s information.
Some events have additional associated information:
- Where an event was unsuccessful – for example, if a payment or top-up failed – additional information is available to help resolve subscriber’s queries.
- Where an event is related to a financial transaction, you can view details of the actual transaction.
- Where an event is related to a bill statement in a payments system, you can view details of the statement itself.
- View and amend subscribers’ details
- Edit subscriber details (personal details and payment information)
- Send a new passcode to a subscriber
The Subscriber Account screens allow you to view information about a selected subscriber and update information where necessary. In order to access details of a subscriber, you need their unique mobile number or registration number.
Note : The current status of the subscriber’s account is always displayed at the top of a Subscriber Account page.
- Maintaining a subscriber’s Friends and Family details
A primary subscriber can associate Friends and Family members with their account (MoPay does not impose a restriction on the number of Friends and Family). These are known as secondary subscribers and are identified by a mobile number and a nickname.
Note : Friends and Family is an optional feature, and may not be present for all customers/service definitions. Once secondary subscribers are registered, the primary subscribers can issue SMS commands to top up the secondary subscriber, specifying either the mobile number or the nickname in the SMS.
From the View/Modify Friends and Family page you can:
- Add a new secondary subscriber.
- View the secondary subscribers on an account.
- Modify the nickname and/or mobile number of a secondary subscriber.
- Delete a secondary subscriber
Customer Security
MoPay meets and exceeds the current security levels available in traditional systems, from application level through to the physical security of the hosting facilities (IBM).All data is encrypted and there is a complete audit trail for all transactions and administrative procedures.
MoPay has been very sensitive to security concerns surrounding any transaction. We are conscious that institutions and individuals using our products and services are transacting information and data that may be vulnerable to misuse. With identity theft becoming rampant and its attendant security implications in the current political environment in the world, MoPay has created robust security architecture. We have built in features at every level that make it nearly impossible for anyone to break through the security net. Here are some of the features.
- Privacy - Information sent from one party to the other is completely confidential.
- Integrity - Information sent from one party to the other cannot be intercepted without notification.
- Authentication - Verification of both party's identities.
- Non-repudiation - All messages between both parties are signed, ensuring an auditable record of the transaction.
- Device - Data stored in an encrypted database inside handheld.
- Transmission - Data encrypted using wireless public key infrastructure (wPKI), and Ir/RF protocol or secure electronic transmission (SET, 3DS, etc.).
- Wallet Service Center - Firewall and third party utility security providers.
MoPay provides its users with trusted security features that ensure the overall legitimacy of the MyMoPay system.
MoPay's mobile payment platform incorporates three core levels of security:
Device security
Personal, financial and other user information is securely stored in an encrypted database inside the MyMoPay-enabled device. Access to this encrypted information is facilitated by the use of a unique device identifier and pin code generated by the user. Future extensibility for user identification includes caller identification and biometric technology such as finger printing or retinal identification.
Server side security
Information regarding users, merchants and partners is securely stored at the WSC using state of the art firewall technologies and third party utility security providers.
Transmission security
Personal, financial and other user information is securely stored in an encrypted database inside the MyMoPay-enabled device. Access to this encrypted information is facilitated by the use of a unique device identifier and pin code generated by the user. Future extensibility for user identification includes caller identification and biometric technology such as finger printing or retinal identification.

Support FAQ
- What if a user’s registered credit or debit card is lost or stolen?
If m-payments are made from the user’s credit or debit card account, the user will report the card lost or stolen with the appropriate Issuing bank. In the unlikely event that the thief has the mobile device, the user’s PIN or ‘passcode’, is familiar with the message formats and functions of the m-payment service and attempts a payment request, the authorization will be denied when MoPay queries the participating bank provided the user has reported the card lost or stolen. When the user is issued a new card, the new card number along with the new card expiry date must be updated in the MoPay database.
- What if a user’s mobile phone is lost or stolen?
The user will most likely immediately report theft of the mobile device with the participating mobile operator. Once the line has been disconnected, MoPay will no longer be able to receive payment requests sent from that mobile number. Should the user be issued a new mobile number, this number should be updated in the MoPay database.
- Is paying for goods and services over mobile phones a secure way to pay?
Yes. None of the applications that MoPay supports require users to input any sensitive payment information into their handsets when authorizing payments. Payment details are stored securely in the MoPay database and are accessed by the system only after the user has been authenticated. The PIN required for all m-payments is a Personal Identification Number, similar to the PIN used to withdraw funds from an ATM. As an additional security measure, the user can change this PIN at will and can be encouraged to do so periodically. The PIN can be composed of a maximum number of 20 alphanumeric characters.
Also, payment requests must be initiated from a registered mobile number. This is a particular feature of m-payments and offers yet another security check that is not possible with purchases made using bank accounts or credit/debit cards over the Internet or at Points of Sale.
